Our Classroom Behavior System
Our classroom environment fosters a mutual respect between myself and my students. By building a strong relationship, students want to succeed and will aim to exceed our classroom expectations. As a school, we are focusing on Positive Behavior Systems- celebrating our students' positive behaviors. In our classroom, we are utilizing Class Dojo. Class Dojo is an awesome interactive app that promotes positive interactions and a strong sense of student cooperation. When students are on task, or displaying another desired behavior, I award them with a 'dojo' and they hear a DING! Adversely, if a student exhibits an unexpected behavior, I give the students a red dojo and they hear a different sound. As these points are distributed privately on my iPad, the class as a whole does not know who received what dojo but instead if they hear the red dojo sound. Almost immediately, everyone focuses on our classroom expectations and works to hear that DING! If you need your student's log in information and your sign up link to receive daily, or weekly, updates regarding your student's dojo progress, please send me an email and I will send it all your way! I even update pictures almost daily to show you what we are working on! There is a parent-to-teacher messaging option through Class Dojo which you are more than welcome to use, however, I do not usually see these/check these daily and the best way to receive a response in 24 hours is by emailing me (email button with a link to my address is on the Home page of this website).
Weekly Homework Calendars
Each week your student will receive a homework calendar with a reading log on the back. This weekly "calendar" displays our specials schedule for the week, trick words to practice, and updates/reminders for the week. Each week your student will receive a S.M.A.D math packet that has a math fact practice page to complete nightly. This packet will be turned in on Friday. Along with your daily math fact sheet, your student will have a nightly reading expectations. I request that you read with your student for approximately 15-20 minutes each night. Your student must fill out the Reading section of the weekly homework page each evening, followed by your initials. This page will be turned in and stamped on the calendar side the following day. Reading with your student can consist of your student reading to you, you taking turns reading with your student, or even you reading a higher level book to your student. A variation of these strategies gives students lots of practice with reading! REMEMBER! "Children who are read to at least three times a week are twice as likely to score in the top 25% of standardized tests."
